What do you do when your freezer is cold, but your fridge is not?

9 year old GE tbx220abrrww the fridge is at 59 degrees this morning after we used a soft brush and vacuum to clean coils on the bottom..that was difficult. We moved the unit away from the wall a couple more inches and adjusted the controls. We also took alot of stuff out of fridge. The fan at the back is working. Now what?

It can definitely be a big inconvenience when such a handy appliance is just having some malfunctions. I have researched your question here on Manage My Life I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached a link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. I hope the link that I have provided is useful!

It sounds like the evaporator coil is frosted over and restricting the air from circulating through the refrigerator. Be sure the inside and outside fans are running.

Check the damper at the back of the refrigerator and be sure it is not frozen shut.

If your refrigerator has a defrost timer, rotate the shaft until the compressor and fan motor turn off. This should put the refrigerator into a defrost cycle. The defrost cycle should last around 20 minutes. You might need to run the refrigerator through 2-3 defrost cycles to clear the frost.

If this causes the refrigerator to work, replace the defrost timer.

The model number you sent does not run in out system. If you have more questions, reply on this thread and include the model number from the plate inside the refrigerator section. I will be glad to help.

I have defrosted my freezer 3 times and freezer keeps working, fan running but fridg is still warm. Just installed a new defrost timer and fan just finally shut off.. Does this meen the ice on coils will defrost? Does this take time, " 2-3 defrost cycles to clear frost and then the fridg to get cold?

donna, if the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working, 2-3 defrost cycles should be enough for the refrigerator to get cold. You might need to take the food out of the freezer and remove the front cover on the evaporator coil to be sure the frost and ice is melting.

Ahhhh! My LG French Doors Refrigerator - with bottom freezer (Model No. LFX25971ST) won't get cold. Just made a huge pot of soup a couple of days ago, and now the soup is actual boiling inside of my refrigerator (nope, it is not blocking the doors), the milk that I just purchased on Monday is now bad, and my butter is extremely soft. I've read the manual, but can't solve the problem. HELP!
