We have a Maytag 400 Quiet series dishwasher. Every time we run the dishwasher there are food particles left on the dishes when finished. The drain hose goes into the garbage disposal. What could be wrong?
Having a Dishwasher in the home is a must now a days, we have grown so accustomed to the appliance. The issue that is presenting itself can be a frustrating ordeal. I have placed a similar question that was asked and then answered by an expert. I hope that it gives you an idea on what to check and what can be causing the issue.
There are several different problems that could be causing food particles to be left on the dishes in your Maytag dishwasher. You could have low water temperature, low fill level, a problem with the spray arms or a problem with the circulation spray pump.Make sure that you are using rinse aid. This will help the particles and water to sheen off the dishes during the final rinse.Make sure that you are using fresh dishwasher detergent. Powdered detergent can get clumpy and loose its effectiveness when it is stored under the sink in a damp environment. Try some new detergent if you used the powdered variety and it is old or clumpy.I recommend that you check the temperature of the hot water that is supplied to the dishwasher first. Run the hot water tap at your kitchen sink for 1 minute. Fill a glass with that hot water. Measure the temperature of the water in that glass with an accurate thermometer. You should measure around 110 to 120 degrees. If the water temperature is too low, I recommend that you adjust the setting on your hot water heater.Check the water fill level in your dishwasher. The fill level for a typical Maytag 400 Quiet Series dishwasher is shown in the image below. There are several different models so your dishwasher may be different than the one shown below (reply with the full model number of your dishwasher if it is drastically different). Start a cycle and allow the dishwasher to fill. Once the filling stops, crack the door to stop the dishwasher. Open the door fully and look at the water level. If the water level is too low, try manually adding some water in the fill portions of the cycle using a bucket or container. If the dishwasher works properly with the added water, then resolving a fill issue should fix your problem. You will normally need to shut off the circuit breaker and water supply then pull the dishwasher out from under the counter to check the fill line water pressure and flow. Refer to the installation guide for your dishwasher to get help with this procedure. If the water pressure and/or flow from the water supply line is weak, then you will probably need to have a plumber fix that issue. If the water supply is okay, you can check the screen on the inlet water valve for a clog. If that screen is clogged, I recommend that you replace that inlet water valve. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Reply with additional details if you need help with this type of repair. If the water level is okay, check the spray arms for cracks or splits. Examine the spray holes for clogs or deposits. The holes can be cleaned with wood toothpicks or bamboo skewers if necessary. If you find no problems with the above issues then you could have a problem with the circulation pump. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this type of problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services . I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and the full model number of your Maytag dishwasher.
Hi, I just purchased a frigidaire dishwasher last month and it just started leaving cloudy water in the tub full to the brim. Is this normal?
Hello Diana. No, it is not normal for that new Frigidaire dishwasher to leave that cloudy water in the tub. If it was draining properly up until now, then you probably have a problem with the drain pump or the drain line. Make sure that the sink drain is working properly. If you have an air gap installed in the drain line, make sure that the air gap is clear. If you find no problems with the drain line or the sink drain, then you will probably need to have the dishwasher serviced under the warranty. Check your owner's manual for any further troubleshooting and then call the phone number listed in that manual for warranty service. NOTE: If this is the first time that you used the dishwasher and you also just installed a new garbage disposal, check to see if the knock-out plug for the dishwasher drain line connection in that disposal was properly removed.
I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher. It is 4 years old. I have already replaced the dispenser once and the plastic closure is worn out again. Now my dishes on the top rack are not coming clean. The dishes on the bottom rack are getting clean. Can you help with any idea that could resolve this problem.
My garbage disposal has a foul odor. My dishwasher is not draining I no it as well. How can I fi it?
For Lee: You will probably need to replace that dispenser again to fix that closure problem. Reply with the full model number of your Kenmore Elite dishwasher and we will look at that dispenser to see if we can provide some tips for preventing that problem for recurring so soon. The problem with the top rack cleaning could be caused by a partial restriction in the sump of the dishwasher or a problem with the TurboZone system if you have that feature on your dishwasher. If you reply with that model number, we will provide some specific troubleshooting for that top rack cleaning issue. NOTE: I added a previous answer that may help you with this problem if you have a dishwasher with that TurboZone feature or a common pump system that is on many Kenmore Elite dishwashers. Let us know if you need more help.
For Margaret: You indicate that the garbage disposal has a foul odor. Check to see if water is draining through it properly. I assume that it probably is since you did not indicate that you detected that problem. You can normally eliminate the odors in that garbage disposal by cutting up a lemon or orange (with the peels still on them) and running that through the disposal. Follow that with running some ice through the disposal. Clean that rubber flap on the top. The problem with the dishwasher draining could be caused by a clogged drain line. Check your air gap on the sink for a clog if you have one installed in that dishwasher drain line. Place a bucket or container under the garbage disposal and pull off the dishwasher drain line to check the end of it for a clog or restriction. If that drain line is clear, you could have a problem with the drain pump or another component in the dishwasher. If you have a dishwasher with a pump outlet and filter screen that looks like the one shown in the image below, then you can probably use the troubleshooting in that link for a previous answer that I provided below this response to fix that drain problem in the dishwasher. Reply with additional details and the full model number of your dishwasher if you need more help with that drain problem.
Hi I am George There are several different problems that could be causing food particles to be left on the dishes in your Maytag dishwasher. You could have low water temperature, low fill level, a problem with the spray arms or a problem with the circulation spray pump.
Hello George. You are correct about those types of problems contributing to food particles being left on dishes in a Maytag dishwasher. Thanks for your advice regarding that type of problem.
The easiest thing to check first when the dishwasher leaves food on the plates is to the air gap in the drain hose (the thing the sits up with the faucet that appears to have no function). If this is clogged with food particles, it will keep the dirty water in the dishwasher.
Rwstout is correct about that air gap when the dishwasher has one installed in that drain line. Checking that external component is fairly easy. Most air gaps have a cap that screws off. You can check that component for a clog. Thanks for posting that tip Rwstout.
I have a Kenmore ulta wash model #2213899K801 that has broken glass at the bottom how do I take off the lower spray arm to clean?
Hello Leslie. I added a link for a video below this response that shows how to remove the lower spray arm. That video shows how to access the chopper blade area of that dishwasher. That should help you access the broken glass. I recommend that you use extreme caution when opening that sump area to clear out that glass. The edges of the broken glass can be sharp. If you need more help, let us know. (NOTE: The full model number of that dishwasher is 665.13899K801 -- you may need that if you have to order parts).
My kenmore dishwasher's start button is not working. The light will not come on and the dishwasher will not start. Any ideas?
Hello Tammy. Make sure that the mushroom float in the bottom of the tub is not stuck in the "up" position. That will prevent the dishwasher from filling. You could have a problem with the door switch on that dishwasher. Press in firmly on the door and see if the cycle will start. If not, I recommend that you try to reset the control board by shutting off the house circuit breaker for 5 minutes. If you have a light switch beside the sink that disconnects power to the dishwasher, you can use that switch instead of the circuit breaker. After restoring power to the dishwasher, see if it will work properly. If not, then you could have a bad door switch, a bad control panel or a problem with that control board. Reply with additional details and the full model number of your dishwasher if you need more help.
My model number on my dishwasher is 665.13742k603. My dishwasher won't start. Some of the other buttons will light up like pots and pans, etc. The start will not work. I have turned off the breaker for 5 minutes to have it reset. It still doesn't work. There was a 1 1/2" plastic washer in the bottom of the tub. The float is not stuck.
Hello Tammy. Thanks for adding that model number. It sounds like you have a problem with that key panel. I provided some technical information in the image below that will help you check that component. Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker before accessing internal components. If you need to replace that key panel or the electronic control board, then you can order the part from this page: Kenmore Dishwasher 665.13742K603 Control Panel Parts . If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
I have a Kenmore Dishwasher Model #665-15895791 it is not filling with water. I get about two cups in the bottom. The fill time is about 2 min. Could this be the Inlet Valve?
I have a Kenmore Ultra Wash Quiet Guard Plus dishwasher and there are 2 problems occurring. The most concerning is there is water left in the basin after the cycle completes, which i have never had before. This is not dirty water and its only about 1/2 inch up from the base. Also, for years the main dishwashing dispenser has been broke, failing to open during the cycle , so I fill it but leave open. I'm sure it would be better for it to be opened farther along in the cycle to do its job better in washing dishes. Can you please assist me with these problem? Thanks!!
For the anonymous contributor above, that fill problem could be caused by a problem with the fill valve or problem with the water supply. You can shut off the house circuit breaker and the water supply. Pull the dishwasher out and check the inlet water screen for a clog or residue in that area. Place the end of the fill line in a bucket or container. Briefly turn on the water supply cut-off valve and check the water pressure and flow of water from the end of that water supply line. If the water supply is okay, then replacing that inlet water valve will probably fix your fill problem.
For Lori. You could have a problem with that drain path. Check the sink drain and that drain hose for a clog or obstruction. If you have an air gap installed in that drain system, then I recommend that you check that air gap for a clog. If you find no problems there, then you may need to shut off the house circuit breaker and pull the dishwasher out to check for a clog or a problem with that drain pump. The problem with the dispenser could be caused a wiring failure, a bad control or a failed dispenser. Reply with the full model number of your dishwasher and we should be able to provide more specific troubleshooting for these problems.
